Claire’s students have appeared on

All in-person students are required to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and be able to demonstrate by uploading their vaccination record before their first lesson.

BIG NEWS!

My new vocal studio is open and you’ll be able to have in-person lessons (finally)!

Over the past few months, I’ve created my own vision of what the perfect voice studio should be. Set in the hills of a quiet canyon in Sherman Oaks, it’s surrounded by nature (and nearby to many acting studios in the valley). The studio has its own climate-controlled atmosphere: air conditioned, filtered, and humidified to provide the best air quality for the vocal cords.

It’s also equipped with a full-size concert grand piano and floor coverings to give a beautiful acoustic response. I’ll be offering fresh herbal teas and other soothing concoctions to support vocal health.

Students who arrive early or have a parent or friend accompany them are encouraged to relax in the beautiful, shady and tranquil outdoor Zen space with internet available.

I can’t wait to share this magic with you, and help you succeed in your vocal journey like never before!

Claire is my vocal shaman

“The difference between Claire and a regular ‘singing teacher’ is that she not only has the top techniques out there, but also applies this intuitive, energetic, mental and emotional aspect. I spent years with another teacher with good techniques, but I wasn’t able to get past my energetic blocks (which I didn’t know existed). Claire is my vocal shaman, lol!”

How does Ariana Grande sing eight shows a week without getting vocally tired, while other stars like Adele have needed numerous vocal surgeries and cannot sing reliably?

Technique.

The right vocal technique is everything, and you can waste years and years and thousands of dollars pursuing the wrong singing technique.

By investing in yourself with the right teacher, you can become part of the elite singers who know the top secrets and methods that aren’t taught anywhere else.

Getting famous these days is easy; lasting and enduring in a world where your voice is constantly being pushed to the limit isn’t. You want a voice that doesn’t just book the job and turn heads, but lasts. You need to know proven methods to activate your “IT Factor,” unlocking the potential that’s already inside you.

Start your journey toward unshakable vocal health, superior technique and a lifetime of confidence.

Hi, I’m Claire Hosterman

I coach singers of all levels to bring their voices to the next level.

I am known in the industry for using a unique combination of top exercises I have learned from teachers around the world, while being a pioneer in my own right, using brand new approaches that have transformed the way my students view singing.

I also teach middle voice, which is neglected by most teachers, who still only teach chest and head voice. True middle voice allows you to sing using your face, helping you to bounce the sound off of the tiny caves and bones of your face, instead of using your throat to sing.

Most people sing using their throat and haven’t been trained to aim the sound into these hollow caverns in the face, which allows you to sing 100 times louder, much higher and with power, resonance, ease and emotion. (Sadly, many students who believe they have been “taught” middle voice still injure their voices and get nodes — like Adele, Megan Trainor and Demi Lovato — as they are often taught basic and common-place exercises.)

I teach middle voice the way I believe it’s meant to be taught, which can be viewed in many of my Instagram video tutorials.

I would love to help you bring your voice to the next level. Sign up for singing lessons today and start your journey to becoming a truly elite singer!

Things to do every day as a singer. 👆🏻 Check them all off, and watch your voice GROW! All of this I’m going to go over in my ONLINE MEMBERSHIP site for singers I’m building (likely opening in the Fall), where people will be able to learn top singing techniques from around the world, while having a supportive community on Facebook to share their singing experiences and their performances (special guests in the music industry will also give tips and advice for succeeding as a singer in Hollywood and Broadway)👏🏼 🙋🏼‍♀️🌎

However, here are some quick tips.

1.) Stretch your ribs open by holding your arms above your head and pulling one arm across to the other side (open ribs in singing are important!).

2.) If you haven’t seen my videos on how to breathe 360 degrees around the body, please watch my previous videos on YouTube/IG

3.) Same goes as ⬆️ for learning chest, middle and head voice (see my previous videos). Did you know that we are all BORN with chest and head voice, but don’t have middle voice naturally? It takes time to develop middle voice, but it’s 600x more POWERFUL than singing with your chest and head voice (not having a middle voice is one of the TOP reasons why people push from their throats and can’t hit high notes without straining). Middle voice is also how Ariana Grande and pro singers hit high notes EFFORTLESSLY! 👏🏼

4.) One of the MAIN reasons we strain and push on high notes is also that our TONGUES create TENSION. Our tongues often pull back in our throats as we sing, whereas we want them to rest behind the bottom front teeth, doing nothing. Pull out your tongue as you sing, training the tongue to stay forward.

5.) Jaw tension is another reason we strain. Use your pointer finger to pull down your jaw as you sing, releasing it (you’ll notice a BIG difference!)

6.) Pick a good repertoire of songs in your range to highlight your “sweet spot” (the part of your voice that shines the most and is most “marketable”). A good singing teacher can help you pick songs, but in general (for most actors in LA and most singers) you want 2 pop songs, 1 musical theatre, and 1 Disney/song of choice. ✨📒 Share your checklist accomplishments below!

Not a lot of people know this about me, but I used to hate my voice. In fact, I sometimes still cringe when I hear myself on tape (all these years later, after all this practice!).

The first several years of taking singing lessons was an extremely difficult time for me, as I both loved and hated my voice. Part of me thought I was God’s gift—but the other part of me rejected my voice completely, as I learned to get to know my voice (how it REALLY sounded, without trying to sound like anyone else. Just being ME). 😯

I remember feeling so ugly…as though no one sounded more HORRIBLE than me. I even cried while I practiced sometimes, even deliberately screaming and trying to hurt my voice when I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. 🤦🏼‍♀️💞

You know when you feel that no one could sound WORSE than YOU?

Specifically, here’s what it looked like for me… I would be super critical and judgy of girls my age (when I was 15, 16, 17…) who I felt could sing better than me. I would tear them down in my head and tell myself that I was far better than them. But the meaner I was to the girls in my head, the meaner I was to MYSELF! It was a vicious spiral. Tearing down other singers in my head made me feel better in the moment, but the irony was that I was turning the judgment back on myself 😪

The main way that I got through this was by realizing that others’ successes didn’t lessen mine. And that, the more I believe in and support others, the more I can believe in and support myself 🙌🏼 And that self- love is actually the answer for EVERYTHING. 💞

The three things that I took away from this were:

❤️ Your voice IS God’s gift, no matter what judgments you place on it. Your voice is worthy.
❤️ Our own voices ALWAYS sounds weirder to us when they’re played back!
❤️No amount of hate is going to grow your voice. Love is the fastest way to transformation.

And I’m sharing this because I know that so many of you have experienced something similar - know that if this is you right now, it WILL and does pass… and I’m here to support you. 🙌🏼

Have you experienced anything similar before? #singinglessons #learntosing #singingteacher

Did you ever wonder why you should invest more money 💰 💴 💵 in a WORLD CLASS singing coach than in other singing teachers?

Most techniques are based on what was taught 200 years ago, and they need to be UPDATED! The world is no longer purely about opera—we now have pop, rock, rap, musical theatre, r&b, etc. If we don’t adapt or evolve our technique, we won’t be able to “make it” as singers in this ever-changing world of music, where new styles and ways of singing are being created daily. 💪🏻

Most teachers still only teach “head and chest voice” which—although they have merits—will only let you grow so far until you hit a vocal ceiling, causing you to push and strain your voice. 😩 True “middle voice” is what allows you to effortlessly hit Ariana-Grande-notes, and although it takes 2-3 years to grow, when under the right guidance of the right teacher, you’ll grow your middle voice so that it’s 600x more powerful than using your throat!

Have you ever had a voice teacher tell you, “Just push from
your diaphragm/throat/stomach”? This is possibly the worst advice in singing, and not only does it do nothing for the voice—it actually creates damage and often confuses students. You cannot physically “push from the diaphragm” (it’s physically impossible), pushing outward with your stomach isn’t natural (you want to engage your abs and pull them inward when you sing) and we all know where pushing from your throat gets you 😜😱 Hint: vocal damage! Find a teacher who helps you sing powerful high notes without damaging your voice—this is the way that pro-singers can survive and thrive in the music industry for 40+ years without burning out their voices 😉 You should never feel pain when you sing!

Many teachers teach exercises/techniques using the body, which is a GREAT start. But 80% of singing is actually MENTAL 🧠 and if you miss this important part, then you’ll actually take 10x longer to reach your singing goals. Find a teacher who teaches mindset for singers.

Finding the right singing teacher can help you reach your goals in a fraction of the amount of time it would take to work with other teachers. 😇✨ Drop a comment below to share your singing experience!

One of the best motivations to practice your daily singing warmups—if you’re not already motivated—is by doing an exercise I do with my ✨life coaching clients✨ (yes, I also am a life coach, and I work with people all around the world, helping them reach their goals and to have the best life possible! 🙌🏼❤️🌞):

This exercise is called, “The why underneath the why.” I may ask the student having trouble with motivation, “Why are you studying singing?” 🌻

If their answer is not very deep or inspiring, it won’t actually motivate them to practice. Sometimes, students may have problems committing to practicing singing every day because they just want to get quick results, be successful and maybe even “become famous”. 👯‍♀️😛However, deep down, their soul knows that this isn’t a big enough motivator because fame won’t actually solve anything in their lives! 😇 What I do is then ask, “Okay, so you want to be successful and famous as a singer. And what will having that do for you?”

“Well... I’d prove to my bullies at school that I’m not a nobody, and that I’m cool,” they may say. 🌺

“Okay, and what would proving that you’re not a nobody and that you’re cool do for you?” I may ask.

“I’d actually like myself again.” ❤️

“And what would liking yourself again do for you?” 🌈

“I’d actually love myself and express who I really am.”

“And what would loving yourself and expressing who you really are do for you?”

“That’s the whole point of life! Expressing who you are. That’s all I really want with singing.” 🎶 🌺❤️

“And how important is loving and expressing yourself on a scale of 1-10?” I may say.

“100!” 🌻💖✨

“Okay, great!” .... And that’s how this exercise works. Get under the reason why you actually say you want to do something. Do you want to become a singer? Why is that? And get underneath THAT reason, and then the NEXT reason, until you’re at the root of why you really want it. And perhaps you may reach the end and find that your reason for singing isn’t strong enough (which won’t be a great factor for motivating you). Then perhaps you need a new hobby! 😜 But get to the bottom of your “Why” and you’ll find the power to motivate you to practice 10x/day! 🌈🌺🌻
